View Full Version : Yes, I'm stupid, but I'm not pretending to know a lot about camaros.
1979 Malibu Aug 31st, 02, 04:54 AM Hey, this may be a stupid, stupid question.
Was wondering about a code i saw on a trim tag while i was workin' at the bodyshop last night.
Can someone tell me what X33 means? I can't give you motor specs- the front subframe is removed and the car is stripped down. But I clearly remember X33. So, let me know, if it's not too much trouble, and not too stupid of a question.
Thanks in advance.

Z28/DZ Aug 31st, 02, 05:29 AM X33 is a Norwood, OH assembly plant code indicating the car was equipped with the Z/28 performance option and exterior body style trim option. Use the search feature here or check www.camaros.org (http://www.camaros.org) for more code info.
Scooby Doo Aug 31st, 02, 05:38 AM Just because you don't know doesn't mean your stupid, just ignorant of what it means. A lot of knowledge is at this site and we all started somewhere.
Welcome to the site.

1979 Malibu Aug 31st, 02, 05:49 AM So, theoretically, the car is supposed to have a 302?
I thought z-28's were 4-speed cars, this one has an automatic shifter on the floor (horseshoe style)
Just curious.
Z28/DZ Aug 31st, 02, 06:54 AM X33 code signifies that car was originally assembled with the Z/28 302 motor and a 4-speed Muncie trans. Over the years many 4-speed cars have been switched to automatics and vice versa.
HawaiianCamaro Aug 31st, 02, 06:56 AM if it were to have all the org equipment yes it would have a 4 speed. Nothing says it might have been switched out somewhere years ago. but to check that it is in fact a Z28 if you can get the Cowl tag and VIN numbers the folks here on the Tag Team section can see if they match up.

William Aug 31st, 02, 07:58 AM If you live by the body tag you will die by it.
They are very easy to move from car to car. For over a decade you have been able to order a reasonably good repro. Just this year after 2 Super Chevy shows and a couple of local ones I've seen 3 Camaros with swapped tags and 4 with repro tags. 2 Camaros recently on ebay had swapped tags.
Post the VIN along with the remainder of the tag data.

kz1000ltd Sep 1st, 02, 03:40 AM X-66 is a factory big block without style trim, which explains the automatic shifter. I'd take a big block over a Z any day of the week...... http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif
