: Trim tag wrong!

I have a 68 convertible that is as basic as they came. 250 inline 6, 3 speed, very few options. When I bought the car (about a year ago) it had sat in a garage since 1979. The tags & inspection sticker expired then. It appears all original including the factory radio. Nothing has been jacked with or modified ... certainly not the engine.

Now for the problem: The trim tag says: 68-12467 ... 8 cylinder convertible.

So does this mean my all original 6 cylinder convertible is NOT numbers matching even though it's exactly as the general built it?!?!?! Can I drop in a correct number 327 to make its numbers match?

Are tirm tags errors pretty common?

All trim tags are 12437 (or 67) It's the VIN that is 123 for I6 and 124 for V8.

Really? I guess my restoration book is wrong. It shows four different numbers on the trim tags: Coupe & Conv, I-6 & V-8. It's the "Camaro Restoration Guide 1967-1969" by Jason Scott & published by MBI. I guess they are the ones who goofed.

Thanks for the info.

Yeah, that misinformation has been passed around for years now. I had a 69 6 cyl convertible that the VIN says 12367 and the trim tag says 12467. The VIN tells you the engine, not the trim tag. Your car most likely has the original trim tag on it.
