Saw this car at a local show I was in last week.69 red/red interior 4sp.Car shows real well.Has all the Z emblems ect. However it has a 427 out of a 67 Impala with alum. heads.I never saw the owner but did get his phnoe#.Haven't been able to reach him yet.I looked at the trim tag and saw what was either a x22 or x77 not sure. The car did have the style trim on. Is this a Z or not.The price is rightI think($15,000) graemlins/clonk.gif

Would have to have the X33 on the cowl tag to show its a Z/28 with Style trim, since it also is a RS.

Well now I'm confused because the car is NOT an RS.I also know that the style trim can be added real easy.I'm not to sure what all the style trim is,but it did have the chrome on the quarter panel lines behind the doors.

my mistake, I was thinking of a different car being a RS-Z/28.
the car you are talking about should still have a X33 on the trim tag if it has the style trim. X77 would be a Z/28 without style trim

X22 would be a BBC car and thus not a Z/28

Style trim includes the quarter louvers (also included with SS and Z28), bright wheel well molding, bright drip rails, chrome trim on the headlight bezels and vertical trim on the tail lights.

I finally got ahold of this guy. It's a x77.all the trim was added during the resto.Says the trans is a m22,373 rear is orginal to the car.He has the orginal 302 but at $15,000 it's not included.

What a swell guy..another Z and it's orig. 302 going seperate ways

I would verify that the 302 is the original to the car and then see how much more money it would take to have it included with the car. Don't let the car and original engine go separate ways.

Yeah, grab it with the original 302 and sell the 427. With all the clones around, I still can't believe some people alter original cars when they could just do it with a clone. Save this one!

Amen!

IF he's got the original 302, try to get it. The fellow I bought my '68 Z28 from ditched the original block after the block was cracked from freezing temps. Ignorance is forgivable, but can be costly.

Well,I bought the car sat He wanted $15,000 and I gave him another $,3,200 for the orginal engine. The #'s match up so it's the same engine that came with the car. It's correct right down to the carb.Did I pay too much for the engine? he said it was rebuilt(30 over) about 800 miles ago.It looks like it too.Real clean and correct looking with the orginal intake and exaust manifolds.I'm just excited about the 302.Just hope I didn't spend too much.I don't think so but I'm more knowlagable about early second gens. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

$18,200 for a numbers matching Z28 and you have a big block engine you can sell, you did real good. How's the body and interior? At least you saved an original Z28 by keeping the engine with the car.

The car itself is beautiful. It has and will win most local and reginal shows. It does seem to have all the style trim on it(around the wheel wells and louvers, even the tail lights. It also has some pinstriping that looks like factory..Interior is perfect.(RED)no counsole,The car is very quick and runs great. Not sure I like the 373's yet but I haven't really had a chance to get a real good feel for it.He even gave me all the cowl induction stuff that is still in the boxes. But now comes the delima.Do I keep the 427 or put in the 302.My Idea right now is to put the 427 in my mint condition 71 hugger orange camaro.Let the fun start graemlins/beers.gif graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Ok.I went over this morning to get the 302 with a buddy of mine. When we got there the guy I bought the car from helped us put the engine in the truck and get it all tied down.We were just about the leave and the guy says hold up I forgot something. He came out of the house with the POP!!! and owners manual.I about s**t my pants. He also gave me all the recipts for the engine rebuild.I work nights so I haven't had a chance to really go over all the paperwork yet,but what I have seen is the engine was rebuilt to stock spec.as far as I can tell..030 overbore with the hardend valve guides.I did see where they put in the off road cam.Still has solid lifters and what 11.5to1 compression?not sure if that was stock.I guess I'll be running a octane boost. The engine looks so pretty(my wifes words) that I almost want to put it in my computer room with my orange and grape krate sting-ray bikes!! graemlins/beers.gif graemlins/hurray.gif

That is a great deal! graemlins/thumbsup.gif Now tell us the truth, you're making this whole story up, right?

I wish my bank account was making it up.Thank the good lord for my understanding wife because the extra room we planned for the house is going to have to wait.We both saw the car drive up right past my 71 we had in the show and my wife said wow look at that one.She is just as much a gear head as I am.We talked it over and she said honey I know how hard you work and how much you want a 69.To tell the truth I thought he would be asking at least in the high 20's for the car thats why I didn't try to get him to come down in price.I'm still in cloud 9 over this.If there is one thing wrong with the car it's red,but I can live with it.

whats the rest of the info on the car? VIN/Cowl tag/POP/etc???

Jeff H
May 7th, 03, 05:52 AM
The POP won't show if the trans is an M20,21 or 22. You have check the transmission itself for the code? What is the code on the transmission? The M21 won't hold quite the same value as the M22, but the M21 is probably better to drive. What does the POP show?

M20 was standard but M21 could be interchanged at no additional cost per Michael Lamm's book. Additionaly, Jerry MacNiesh's Z/28 book clearly shows an M21 tranny as an example of a correct 4 speed. I would not let that bother you. Look for other stuff before you get all bunched up. smile.gif

The Muncie side cover pictures in that book need a little work as one shot has a TCS switch style side cover that would not have been used on a Z/28. Great book overall.

Check the code on the tranny. If it ends in A it's M20. Ends in B, it's M21. Ends in C, it's M22. That coding began with early 69 production, but not the very beginning, if my memory serves me correctly.
