I own a 71 camaro i am restoring and I am having problems decoding the accessory code
the tag reads:
ST 71-12487 L01420
TR 776 26 26 PNT
08D 027648 260327
I understand most of it except the
Accessory code 027648 and the number next to it 260327. Is this a Van Nuys RS?

the codes at the bottom of your tag are not accessory codes, these #'s are used to i.d. the body as it rolled down the assembly line. I don't really have to much info on early second generation Van nuys cars like yours, but later '70's these numbers did indicate the day of manufacture, for example the second set of #'s on your tag are 260327, if my thoery is correct the first two digits indicate the day of the month, 26= August 26, 1970 the following four digits are the sequence numbers for the body., the first sequence of numbers 027648, it could be possible that the first two digits meant the number of days into producion 02= the second day of 1971 model year production followed by 7648 another sequence number, Again I could be completly wrong on both counts, because I do not have enough body tags for the '70 or '71 Van Nuys Camaros, I do know for a fact the Van Nuys did use a date/sequence on '76-81 Camaros, and Norwood used a "number of days into the model year"/ sequence on '73-81 cars. These numbers do not identify specific options to answer your question. Norwood used codes to id certain models, but Van Nuys cars never did. The only way to be sure is to find the build sheet. I hope I helped you. Chris S.

Thank You, Chris. I will search for build sheet if it is still there.
