hey guys I was givin an block that was in my granmas neighbors back yard. It is pretty rusty and I think it can be saved. I was digging around on the web and found that it could be a 350 or a 302 because they both use the block code and have 4 bolt mains. These are the numbers I found on it.

block# 3970010
and some numbers on the passenger side head surface that read- V1009TTP

All I got was a block with the main caps still in place.

thanks for your help

The casting is a common 4" bore small block number - the engine code .....TTP designates it as a 1970 C-50 (2 Ton) Chevy Truck or a School Bus Chassis engine, 350 CI/215HP.
Sorry to burst any 302 dreams you had, but you could still build a 302 or 350 from it if it checks out okay. These blocks can have cracks in the lower web areas from heavy use that could prevent any further use, check it carefully before you spend money to machine it.

thanks for the fast reply. Im glad its not a 302 because i would have to sell it to make any use of it. I need a new 350 block so I pretty happy i got one for free. thanks for the fast reply.

A 302 block is the same as a 350 block 4" bore. The 0010 block can be 2 or 4 bolt main. Just soyaknow! ;)
