The chassis number under the windscreen is 124378X100096 but no one seems to know what the X stands for. There was a GM plant in Belguim and it might of come from there as the speedo is in kilometers instead of miles. There is no plate under the hood to help me. Anyone out there know?

The X is for Antwerp, Belgium. Are you sure about the 8 in the VIN?
No tags under the hood? There should be 1 to 3 tags on the firewall.
Any of the drivetrain original?

Yes the 8 is correct doesn't that mean it came with a V8? There isn't any other tags I can see.

No, that's the year. But every other Belgium car has had an H for the year, not an 8.
Are there holes in the firewall where the tags would have been?
What drivetrain is in it?

Dark Horse,
I have one of these cars as well. I just bought my Kilo. Speedo from a guy in Sweden.
Unfortunately, there isn't much known about these cars. Mine is a '68 SS with several options, incl. deluxe blk. int., rear defroster, console gauges, fold down rear seat and "flash to pass". A real different car, that's why I bought it.
The guy in Sweden has owned several from the Antwerp plant. He told me that the majority of the cars were highly optioned. Some of the camaros from the plant rolled off the line with 283's and some had a factory sunroof. My drivetrain and rear end have been changed out unfortunately.
I can't wait to start taking my car to shows and really "WOW" people. BTW, my car has 2 aluminum tags on the pass. side for ID. No serial on my dash board either.
Good luck with your ride!!!
Jeff

Sorry its been so long. I have started to upgrade the front suspension with uprated springs and roll bar and got carried away. While all the sheet metal was off I found a chassis number stamped on the passenger side rail on the top just behind the suspension mount. It is 12437HX100096. Which matches with what Kurt says. On the Belguim cars do you know what they put on the dash board?
My 68 is a RS with a 350/350 deluxe interior, tictok tac, console gauges, front disks, fold down rear seat and front & rear seat belts.
