I was looking at a 69 camaro a year or so ago. It was supposedly an rsss car. I wrote the cowl tag info down. The info on the cowl tag was strange so I never pursued the car. The car had an rs front end, yellow paint and a black interior which was not original and a 12 bolt. Heres what was on the cowl tag.

It had an automatic, small block. I should of checked the #s on the block but didnt. The owner claimed it to origionally be a big block car. I thought he was full of s?!t. Another reason I walked away. Still curious about the cowl tag though.

Here is how it decodes:
Decode for body number: 104757
09B = Built the Second week of September.
69-12437 = Coupe.
LOS = Built in Van Nuys California.
725 = Custom Midnight Green Bucket Seats.
65-F = Lower Color is Olympic Gold and the Vinyl Top Color is Brown.

Is the "X409 J8" on the top of the tag like you have it? For a LA car there would be a scheduling code on the bottom of the tag.

The X409 J8 was on top of the cowl tag. This is what I thought was strange. I thought only Norwood cars get the x codes. If there should be more numbers on the bottom(scheduling code)I didnt write them down. I posted everything I had written down.

I wish you had gotten a picture. I have not seen this before, but I mostly deal with 67's.

The owner still lives in town. I think the car has been sold. I might be able to track it down if its still in the area and get pics.

I agree with Dan, Ive seen lots of 69 cowl tags but all have had the internal code at bottom right corner. Its not the same x code as seen on Norwood cars rather an internal scheduling code of some kind.
Would be neat to see a pic of that tag. Learn something new everyday.

Something smells funny with this one....
Sure that isn't a 68 tag?

That was one ugly mutt originally..Gold/Brown with a green interior? Must have been bought by a forest ranger or something..
