Help me decode this stamp from my 12 bolt rear end.

Dave, from what I have researched you have a 12 bolt posi,JL/8 rear(four wheel disc brakes) with an axle ratio of 2.56. If this is what you have it is very rare. Only 206 1969 camaros were produced with this option. It was deleted from the option list on July 21, 1969. QS=2:56, 06=June, 06=day, G1=gear plant and 1shift. Let me know if this corresponds to what you have.

Much more likely to be a 67 axle which would be a 3.07 open 12 bolt. May have a radius rod bracket on it.

This is off my '67 Camaro RS/SS. I'm confused cause there is no reference to a QS code for the '67 Camaros. I found references to QS for '68 & '69 however.

The rear is a 12 bolt non-posi, drum brakes. I spun the tires yesterday & the axle turned 1 1/2 times. Does that make is a 2.56 rear?

The axle does have a square rod around 3 foot long which bolts to the car's body. I assume that's what your calling a radius rod.

Is the rear axle code alone enough to determine if it is original to the car?

According to Colvin, the QS code was indeed used in '67 and signifys a 3.08 rear w/ metallic brakes.

So why does the driveshaft only turn 1 1/2 turns? Maybe I'll check it again.

From what I gather non-posi rear ends will turn 1/2 the actual gear ratio.
