I have a 68 350 block that has the first and sixth character engraved before the "N" along with the rest of the characters as correct. I have a concern about the "N" floating half a character higher than the rest of the vin. The rest of the group is aligned. Is this a problem?

does the assembly/suffix stamp exactly line up with the partial vin? Or can it be located higher or lower on the pad?

The engine code suffix is a different stamping so it won't line up with the VIN stamp. The VIN stamp should have the N lined up with the rest of the numbers. Can you post a picture of your stamping.

I will post a photo shortly. The N is not in perfect allignment with the rest of the characters for sure. The assembly stamp is to the upper left of the vin. Looks like I might have a restamp.

The engine plant code stamp should be toward the centerline of the engine, and the assembly VIN stamp should be on the outboard end of the pad. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
