I want to match the vin numbers to the hidden numbers stamped in the firewall undernieth the heater box cover.to find out if the tags have been swapped from another car.if the vin number is for example 123456....etc does the stamped numbers follow them exactly the same.or can anyone give me an example to do this.

If the vin# is 124378N323456 then the partial vin# on the cowl will be 18N323456.
Here is a link to explain it more: http://www.camaros.org/numbers.shtml#PartialVIN

Note that there have been some vehicles reported to be 1 or 2 numbers off. Apparently the factory workers may have occasionally forgotton to advance the number for the next vehicle coming down the line. There was an interesting post about this and the "Egg" device that was used to stamp the security numbers with. http://www.camaros.net/forum/Forum6/HTML/002171.html
