I have what I believe is a 327 factory replacement block. The casting numbers are 3959512, the date code is h213, and the stamped numbers are oe OR ce-6n-26275. Any help would be appreciated.

I think the CE code is for the warranty replacement or over the counter short block. I've looked at a lot of cars that had CE blocks in them.

thanks Jeff. I did get this block at a dealership. Are there any thing in the numbers that tell if it was for a certain car model? Thanks again. Jerry

The CE code was supposedly used from 68 up so your date code would indicate a 1973 build date. On the other hand the casting number is for a 62-63 year. Humm...That's all I got.

Well, I got some of the same info. I found a 64 corvette replacement block in Hemmings with the same casting number, and Tracy Performance says 69-73 327 service replacement block. But did Chevrolet assign a different casting and/or stamped number to different car models? Of course I want it to be a corvette block, but if anyone knows of someone who needs "brand new" never been in a rig, never been fired, never been a mile on it's own power fitted block, get ahold of me. Thanks again for the info. Jerry

The stamped numbers on "CE" warranty replacement blocks aren't related to any particular car line - the "C" stands for Chevrolet, the "E" stands for Engine (as opposed to the "T" for Transmission that appears on replacement automatic transmissions), and the next characters of the code indicates which engine plant the unit came from and what the sequential number that is of all the replacement engines made by that engine plant (i.e., 3569 would indicate that the engine in question was the 3,569th produced by that engine plant). There is nothing in the "CE" stamped code to indicate which configuration the engine is internally; that was based on the Chevrolet part number under which the engine was ordered, which is not indicated anywhere on the engine.

Thanks John for the information, That clears up a lot of my questions.
So, is this a small journal, 4 in. bore block cast in 1973, or in 1963? And how would one know which year? I think Chevrolet stopped making small journal blocks in 1968 or so. Again, thanks to everyone for their help. This forum is great for collecting information. Jerry
