View Full Version : Need help on 68 RS value w/ rare options
Cardenas Dec 18th, 04, 07:33 PM I have a 68 RS with #matching(rebuilt 2 years ago, with A/C, p/w,p/b,p/s, front discs, black deluxe int, and a front bench seat with column shifter. My father-in-law and I completely restored this car two years ago, and the only thing that isn't original style is the paint(Jaguar Saphire Blue). I'm looking to sell it because I found I don't have enough time to drive it like I thought I would so it sits in my garage more often than not. Can someone tell me what on Earth it maybe worth? I have checked around on EBAY and Autotrader for comps but there is no other car out there for sale like mine. Please help.
choptop Dec 19th, 04, 07:00 AM Frederick, though some Camaro options are rare, not all have an appreciable effect on the car's overall value. In your case I think the average selling price for a nicely restored, matching #s '68 would be in the right ballpark. You could likely up the price for the deluxe interior and power windows, but I'm not sure the bench seat or column shift would add much value.
Without having looked at any pictures of your car or seen it in person I could only hazard a guess to the value; I think you are somewhere around the $20K range (+ or -) if your car is really nice condition with original body panels.
Just my $0.02
al8apexer Dec 19th, 04, 07:01 AM put it on ebay and find out
the bench seat and wrong color may be negatives for some buyers
depends on what you started with and how well the restoration was done
here is a site that carries all the free used car sites:

go to CPI/Hemmings for an estimate of book value
36j1967 Dec 19th, 04, 07:16 AM We get this type of question rather often. The standard reply is, it is worth only what someone else is willing to pay. I will add that many factors play a role in getting a good price for a car. Documentation is by far one of the most critical. Since it is a 68 do you have anything to prove it was an original RS optioned car? Overall condition also is critical. Do the hideaways work, power windows etc. What color was the car originaly? A color change is of most value to the individual who painted it to personal taste not the prospective buyer. Although the car has rare options it does not always translate into desireability. The bench seat column shift option is rare but most buyers will pay more for buckets and console. A good "free" resource is located here on the classifieds
RS3SDL2MG Dec 19th, 04, 09:24 AM If you have had the car a while and did not give a lot for it you may be surprized at what it will sell for , I got my 67 RS in 99 and just horse traded around to get it (NO MONEY INVOLVED AS I DON'T HAVE ANY) after I got my car I drove it for a year and a half then took it apart and repainted it , the first year I drove it after doing the paint and other work I drove it to a car show in tenn , first day I was there a man came up to me and asked if I would sell it ??
I told him I was not sure and he said do you mind if I make an offer ?? I said sure ,,
he offered me $15 grand $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
at the time I thought he was just joking so I laughed at him an said no I better keep it , later after several other offer's in the same price range I realized that it was no joke these car's realy will sell for that much ,,,
a car that cost $2495.00 brand new will now sell for $15 to $20 grand ,,,who would have thought
Unreal Dec 19th, 04, 10:47 AM A ZL1 that sold for the rediculously high price of $7500 in 69, sells for $325,000, now. What it cost new has little relavence to what it's worth now. Sure wish I had bought a couple of those overpriced cars, back then.
