Now write down the numbers and letters from the cowl tag, which is next to the brake booster under the hood on the firewall, its a small 2"x5" plate with 2 rivets holding it to the firewall. That will tie in the body build information for you. None of these numbers will tell you the engine is original. You need to look at the numbers on the engine itself behind the alternator, next to the valve cover on a short extension of the intake head. Its stamped into the metal. Those numbers will help detail the engine you guys have there. There will also be other numbers near the oil filter to help in the numbers search here. That requires being under the car probably. Also of interest will be the transmission numbers off the pan and the axle code numbers. Visit www.camaros.org/numbers.shtml (http://www.camaros.org) and read up on where to find these numbers, it has photos to help you there. For the camaro.org folks, I met Therese at a car show this summer. She and her son are restoring this car she has. smile.gif [ 09-06-2004, 11:39 AM: Message edited by: click ] HawaiianCamaro Sep 10th, 04, 07:23 PM October 1968 512134--530337 Sorry to say but since its a OCT built car there wont be a "X" code on the Cowl Tag. What you will Have to look for is the Owner Protection booklet and see if the metal Protecto plate (POP) is still attached or maybe just the plate laying in the glove box or with any papers that came with the car. The POP will give you the VIN and the Engine code for that car. If the VIN matches, the engine code should be DZ for a Z28. If no pop, any window sticker or other order forms that show it ordered as a Z??? The partial VIN and the engine code should be on the front engine pad as well. Hope it comes back as a True Z. Also can you post the Cowl Tag info as well for us record keepers? Mahalo |
