i have a hugger orange, 69 camaro, x44-d80, norwood car that was stripped, i.e no buildsheet, no protect-a-plate etc. i found n-10 on the firewall, the factory punched hole for the ti ignition in the firewall, it had disk brakes, silver grill,zl-2 hood, bb x-member,radio delete, was made in june, the vin is around 666600. the car was bought off the dealer, stripped down and raced with a zl-1 in the prostock class in 69. it looked alot like porterfields car. it went to the 4th round and was eliminated at the 1st winternations in pomona. one of the mechanics that 1st stripped the car took out the ti ignition because non-factory tack wouldnt work with it. my question is, could there be a 70th zl-1 car. mr copo says no way. with the excess of unsold cars in 69-70 nobody would order another car from chev. unfortunatly, all the parts were sold to other people thru the years so theres not much hope without chevrolet verifying it. i would like to try gm of canada as a last resort, but i dont have an address. thank you.

Unfotunately, I can't help too much, but what I can offer is the phone number for Vintage Services at GM Canada. The number is 888.467.6853. You will need to confirm the last 6 digits, if it wasn't originally sold in Canada, they will have nothing on the car.

Perhaps you have a COPO 9561 ie. iron block 427. Get the rear end cast date, assembly date and application code. If it's a "BE" rear and dated close to your car's build date, you likely have a COPO. What about the radiator, curved neck BB?? Let us know what you find.

The X44-D80 is a very good chance that it is a COPO car. Since the Transistor Ignition was available over the counter, there's a good chance someone could have added it. I can't say I've ever seen a ZL1 up close to know where the extra hole in the firewall is. GM says they made 206 JL8 cars and that figure is in dispute so who knows about the ZL1. GM's records aren't the most accurate. Sounds interesting, keep us updated.
