I hope someone can shed some light on this one.I have a 10 bolt rear end, casting code K258 which i've decoded as meaning-NOV.25 1968.The code on the axle tube is PW1205,Then a digit after the 5 is either a O,G,or C.When I look these up I cant find a listing for gear ratio-PW,unless it's a 3.08 built in 75-77,which it obiously is'nt, the casting date says 68,my car is a 67,and I don't belive a 75 rear end would fit my 67.Could this be mis-stamped?It's clear as a bell also,i'm not reading it wrong, except the last digit like I said is a little fuzzy. When I got this car the previous owner said it had a 3.08 rear gear,I pulled the cover, counted the teeth,it's really a 2.73,so I'm putting 2 and 2 together here,I think the guy I got the car from must have run into the same problem.except he did'nt pull the cover ,he just used the "PW" code,so he figures it's a 3.08.What irks me is he was passing this off as the original rear end!If he looked it up and saw that PW=75-77 3.08 he knew it was'nt!You just can't trust anybody! No biggie, I do have the original trans. and engine still,I swapped this rear end out with a better geared 12 bolt anyway. But I still would like to decode it.

PW is a 2.73 open 10 bolt in 1967. The cast date you list is actually a 69 model year date.
I think the K258 is actually K256. Which means it could be the original for your car, depending on the build date of it.
I'd be interested in the rest of the #'s from your car. The easiest way is via http://www.camaros.org/researchdata.shtml or email me.
Thanks!

Really?!That would be great if it was original, just so I have it in case I change back to stock.I have looked on 3 differrent lists and could never find a PW code for any first gen. year, thats why I figured I would ask for help.THANKS!If the K258 is actually a K256 I would have to double check,it's mothballed back it my shed, and the casting date is a little fuzzier then the axle code.I Looked up my other codes way back when and they seem to fall in line,I believe the car was built in late 66,so the K256 is very possible.heres the other #'s if your interested.
engine block #'s:TT202MM
TRANS. #'S:C9R17D
VIN #'S:124677N148837
TRIM TAG #'S: 12B E
67-12667 NOR 49002
765-Z G-2
ED 2 MGR 3SL
Like I said I've looked these up before and they seem to be o.k.,they are the same options that are on the car now.Any way thanks again for the help Kurt.

Thanks for the data!
No question in my mind that the rear axle is original.
