Watching "Classics Roadshow" tonight on speedvision they showed the ZL-1 that Reggie Jackson owned at a Barrett Jackson auction. The guy talking about it said it was the 53rd ZL-1 built and you could tell by the last 6 digits of the VIN. I am pretty sure that is incorrect, because it's just a general production number for that year of car at that particular plant, correct? That number has nothing to do with an sort of options or COPO status. I was halfway paying attention and that statement sounded a little strange.

The VIN's of the 69 ZL-1 Camaros were released years ago. Knowing the last six digits you can easily tell which # ZL-1 it is becasue they were all built at the Norwood, Ohio plant. So in this case the TV reporter was correct. This site http://www.copo.com/ZL1-vin.htm has the VINs posted.
