I have two power steering boxs
One came out of a 68 Camaro plain jane 6 auto
casting numbers 5691676 25 291
number on cover 5689023 3 1/2 turns lock to lock
The other came out of a 69 Firebird 400
casting number 5691676 25 229
number on cover 5686555 2 1/2 turns lock to lock
can not read number on little square block on top cover on either one of them.
Question is, is the one out of the Firebird considered variable ratio and is it the better box to use?
Thanks Bill

I have heard, that you cannot go by casting numbers. I have an original fast ratio box, in the shed. They are not the "Firm feel" that most people like. I would not use either box unless you want originality. The fast ratio box is also not a variable ratio. I use an AGR box that I had them change to a 16:1 variable ratio as their 12:1 was too fast and twitchy for me. I like this box and was told it is the same as the newer Camaros.

Yes, the 69 box should be a variable ratio design. Good desireable st box.
