I need help with a rear end, I am REALLY confused.
casting # 3894860 (12-bolt)
axle date PD1122G
E
casting K168
How do I figure year built? Chevy by numbers didn't help much. I bought from a guy who didn't have it long. I was told it came out of a '67 RS/SS
CSG says K168 means Nov 16 '68 -> so this came out of a '69 Camaro?? How do I tell the difference between a '69 & a '67 rear end (any visual signs?), and PD in '69 (according to CBTN) means a 2.73 gear ratio (not in a 12 bolt would they?). PD in a '67 would mean a 3.07 posi (which makes more sense for an SS)
or is the K a Plant code for McKinnon and 168 mean cast on the 168th day of the year. If so I figure 168 days is roughly August, does this make sense to have an August cast and a November build?
How the heck do I figure the codes for a rear end???
PS. All the numbers are easy to read - so I'm not misreading.
Thanks for the help
Matt
