I could use help telling if this is a true SS camaro. From what I understand Los Angeles cars use a different coding system? Anyhow:
VIN:124379L500232
What bothers me is the cowl or trim tag:
ST69 12437 LOS101997BDY
TR71713 69 69 PNT
08E 60102
I know the info from the 1st and 2nd line and the 08E (month, week) of the 3rd line. What is 60102???? I was expecting a Car code...this is the number that should tell me Z28 Base model, SS 350, SS 396, etc. I cannot find info on what the 60102 is? Can anyone tell me if this is infact a true 396 SS camaro im looking at? I know the vin shows a v-8 thats as far as I get. Any help or links to decoding sites would help!
Thanks

Do a search on the subject, it's been discussed in great detail. Bottom line, the LA built cars did not have X-codes, the "extra" number you are looking at was some kind of internal work order code which means absolutely nothing as far as what your car was from the factory. You just have to look for other clues, or locate your build sheet, which was generally on top of the gas tank on the drivers side. Good luck! KZ

Look at the numbers again, you should have a letter then 3 numbers after it. Something like G102 would be more like it. Anyway, it will not tell you if it is an SS.
Check out this site for where to look for more clues:

By the way, you have a very early car. It was the 232nd car built at VanNuys in 69.

The code is G0102. Not sure why there is an extra digit.
Saw the car. Though the car has an L78 in it, I don't believe it was a SS originally.

No dual exhaust hanger.
If you're going to dig some more, check the rear axle code.
The axle code is located on the passenger side axle tube. Look under 'Decoding' on the CRG website for a great sketch of the location.
