what would be the apropriate date code for the alternator on a '69 COPO with a build date in the third week of March, 1969? Thanks for the help

The alternator should date to the engine, not the car. If you have a real COPO, and don't have the original motor, you should post over at Yenkos.net. Those motors were build in batches, so they could give you good advice on motor build dates vs. body build dates.

If you have the original motor, conventional wisdom says 1-3 weeks prior to engine build date.

Thanks for the input... Have the correct engine, but wrong alternator... has been replaced with a 63 amp unit.

The alternator was installed at the car assembly plant, not the engine plant; with the hi-po batch-built engines, it's not at all unusual to have assembly plant-installed components dated well after the engine assembly date. Assembly plant-installed items should be dated prior to the car's assembly date, not necessarily prior to the engine assembly date. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
