I'm a member of Team Chevelle and I'm getting ready to purchase a Camaro. I've run in to a snag however. I need to know if there is any to determine if a "so-called" SS 350 built at LOS assembly plant is in fact an SS 350. There doesn't appear to be a cowl tag code in option group 4 for an SS 350 built at the LA plant. The owner says it's an SS 350 with a 350 turbo. It has no SS badges on it but I don't think he really knows what it is. He told me he was told it was an SS. The car is very straight with new interior, no rust, needs paint with a 12 bolt posi. Asking price is less than 6,000. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Below is the vin and cowl tag info

TXSS,
This is what the car decodes as:

1 = Chevrolet
2 = Camaro
4 = 8-cylinder engine
37 = coupe body
7 = 1967 model year
L = Los Angeles, CA assembly plant (Van Nuys)
162712 = vehicle serial number sequence

Decode for body number: 038180

06C = Built the Third week of June.
67-12437 = Standard Interior Coupe.
LOS = Built in Van Nuys California.
760 = Standard Black Bucket Seats.
Z = (A50) Strato Bucket Seats.
E-E = Car Color is Deepwater Blue

Options:
2M = (M35) Powerglide Transmission
2G = (D55) Console front compartment
5Y = (A39) Belts All Deluxe

It is not an SS and the TH350 was not available in 67 Camaros at all.

You left off a code in the top left corner of the tag, and the second digit of the body color.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Agreed, not a SS.
But not a bad price if it's in good shape.

Thanks Daniel. I'm new to decoding Camaros. I have not seen the cowl tag myself. This information was e-mailed to me by the owner. I thought there was a code in the top left-hand corner and second digit in the body color missing. My restoration guide does not show a way to verify an SS 350 built at the Van Nuys plant in 67, is this correct. Thanks again for the help.

TXSS,
If it is and SS350 it should have a 4P just like the NOR cars.
