Without any documentation to speak of on my Z, so far I know that the cowl hood, even though it is an original GM piece***thanks for the posts on GM vs "REPRO" cowl hood***, isn't original to my Z, and there is no hole in the firewall by the fuse block for C.I.<---*all repro* wiring, I will keep it on. I like it better than the flat hood which I don't have anyway.

I have several questions on the engine block, heads, and distributer. Car built 06A VIN is N653104 but cannot find on oil pad***i see something, but see nothing, if you know what i mean*** '010 block, not decked, casting date E279, front pad is V0604DZ***looks to be original based on past past T.C. posts i've read***, heads are 186's E279 and F209<--this one may have been a replacement, but previous owner wasn't sure.

The distributor is a freshly rebuilt 1111480 9E15 unit and spec'd out on a SUN machine. It has the 532 CCW cam and correct shaft according to the previous owner with an adjustable Crane canister. I tried it out in my mild built 11.1 350 with no problems, but as for the numbers on the case go it looks as if it was a restamp. The number "1's" look like this --> 1 <-- without the bottom horizontal base instead of the straight line that I see on other distributors and they are not shallow... but real deep impressions. Also, previous owner said he was told the original distributor case was broken due to engine being banged into while sitting at his shop.

Does this sound correct for my Z? I'm not sure about the one head or the 480.
The previous owner supplied me with these pieces when I bought the car and said they came from owner before him.

Hi Gary, Dont know if this helps you or not but my documented 06A Z28 is 6150 cars after yours and the pad and protecto plate have the following numbers- V0527DZ ( cast E-21-9 ) diff- BU0602G and trans- P9D28 . The 186 heads are E-14-9 & E-15-9. There is also a protecto plate in the MacNeish book that is V0521DZ and the vin is 658513, diff is BU0519G and trans is P9E13. This car is 741 cars earlier than mine, hence the arlier stamp pad date. I also have a V0604DZ in my data base and the vin of that car was-661910 cast E-27-9 the same day as yours but the vin is 8800 cars after yours. I am not sure but your motor stamp sounds a little late for your vin, maybe Mark C. could comment, as he knows way more about dating than myself. Hope this info has helped somewhat.

Give us a little more information on your car. Trim tag data, etc. The car sounds similar to one I looked at a few years ago in VA.

Jeff...My Z is an X33D80 Cortez Silver with black stripes, black vinyl top, cowl induction...not original to car... black standard interior, wood grain on steering wheel and dash, also has woodgrain at glovebox area...added by previous owner...I know this isn't correct but i like it on there as well...console, all gauges, trim on pedals, passenger assist handle, dual mirrors.

Trim tag reads:

ST69 12437 NOR 344579
TR 711 69 B PNT
06A X33D80

VIN reads:

124379N653104

odometer reads: 80,950

Is there anything else i can help with?

According to last owner the car was used as a race car for many years in Delaware. I have traced it as far back as being registered in Elkton, MD-1988. but haven't been able to varify any info. Haven't been able to contact past owners. The car is unrestored and looks to have been taken care off. Dash panel shows no signs of rust or has ever been replaced.
Also, has original ball joints with the rivets. I took it to have the front end checked and it was perfect. There are 2 pics on my website of the car when I bought it 3 years ago. Since then, I replaced the Weld Wheels with rally wheels. The rear is not original to my car...If i remember, it's like a December 68 built with 4.10's ... and the same for the trans...it's a May built M20 and clearly shows a different VIN stamp. This is why I'm trying to figure out if I have the correct engine.

Cool Mike. Hugger Orange is a nice color, but not for me. I just sold a Carousel Red (same as Hugger Orange) 69 GTO Judge and boy did that car stand out. I kind of got burnt out on it though.

rszmjt...I painted the oil filter flange area with some white paint and sanded it and found the numbers. Still had to strain my already glasses wearing eyes with a gazillion candle watt light...just kidding...to see it. That's the block I have. I remember sending those numbers in from this block when I was ready to have machine work done a few years ago and I asked the machine shop friend of mine to see if he could see the numbers for me. At least that clears that up. Just need to clear up the distributor situation next.

Mike,

I have one just like yours. Its a 05C.

One thing I noticed on yours is that you have a gray grille, if I am not mistaken the silver cars had a black grille.

Jan...as best I can tell from all the info I have read here on T.C. and the CRG website...The non-RS base Camaro, Z/28, specialty Camaros (COPO, etc.) and the black RS Z/28 had the argent silver grill installed. All others had the black one installed. I'm sure if this is incorrect more info will be added by the other members here.

Gary,
So your VIN was legible by the oil filter?

Yes. I remembered reading something about spraying white paint on that area and then sanding it. The numbers are faint but I could make them out. After I saw the numbers I remembered I sent them in to the CRG website a few years ago. At least I know it's not the original block now. I just need to figure out what to do with the distributor.
