where are the casting numbers for the engine. I looked everywhere, All I find is dirt. http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif

I know about the tag on the firewall, (which I will jot down soon to post) but I want to get the engine numbers as well. my car has the orig 327 in it, I dont know if its the 275 or the larger one, but most likely the smaller of the 2.

Main numbers are on the passenger side of engine, front of block, just below the head. A flat surface about 3/4 in wide x 3 inches long, reads from top of engine but sloped with cylinder bank. Probably covered with dirt/grease. Scrape off and look for stamped in numbers.

The casting number is located on the flange of the engine behind the drivers side cylinder head. The casting date is on the same flange area closer to the distributor. It's pretty hard to see/reach without cleaning the area up. Might try using a scrap of paper and a crayon to rub the numbers on the paper. The engine assembley plant/date/suffix code are located where Tom3 described. Sometimes a partial VIN is also present there. But its not unusual for a '67 to not have the VIN stamped.
