Have the 68 camaro my dad bought in '71. He had the engine rebuilt in 1983 and I am trying to confirm I still have the original block. The VIN stamp is not too deep but is most of what it should be: 1 N4359 2, which matches my VIN assuming the missing numbers are correct. Next to that is the engine code: V05TIME. Nothing I have seen yet indicates that the letters TI should be there - should be numbers. I looked closely and it is definitely V05TIME. Any ideas? Thanks.

That TI stumps me too, my book of numbers show the ME as a 327 with powerglide tranny. The T is the Tonowanda plant where it was built, the 05 is May and the TI should be day of manufacturer but TI isnt a day.
I found reference to TI as transisorized ignition but I dont think it would be noted in this Number off your engine.
Im sure other much more versed in these translations will chime in too.
Glad you are saving it graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Could it be the T1 could be the stamping persons attempt at an 11, thus making the build date May 11th? I read someplace that the 1 was such a common number in the stamping process that as they would break and wear out more often they were sometimes replaced with an I, maybe in your case a T. I once had a 69 302 that had an I instead of a 1 on the pad as part of the date code. Just some food for thought.

thanks for the responses. It is a 327 with powerglide trans. Guess i feel better that it is the original block - in my dad's records for the 1983 rebuild there is a receipt for 1 repaired block for $90.77 parts charge. the engine needs to be rebuilt so I am trying to decide on rebuilding vs a crate motor so if it is original that is another point to consider. Thanks again for the responses.

took photos of the block pad and realized after looking at them that the code is actually V05IIME - so it may be that the one was broken and the I used instead. thanks for the help!

The letter I substituted for 1 is very common! My 67 ME from the same engine factory, Flint engine, also used the I for 1.
