Interesting.
Z was a mid-year paint code (started in Jan 68) and wasn't used in October of 67.
I'd be real interested to see the rest of the #'s from the car.

Are you sure about the shade of orange? We know of several west coast cars that were painted Tangiers Orange.

Kurt thanks for your reply,LA car, built 10c body plate intact and unmolested. Body plate rivits appear to have silicone in them(rubbery substance)Orig ownr absolutely stated Mclaren orange.Every thing else matches on car, except smog system which has correct build date but cast # does not match by looking at 67-68 Z28 book. (I do believe it also to be orig, though)Orange paint is even under body bushing bolts, fuel tank, under coat, carpet etc.I dont know if u need any other info I HAVE ALL #'s but dont know what you want THANKS! Kurt,I think the big thing is it being a Dana car.Several years ago a NAPA rep.who said he was an appraiser looked at car did some research and said it was special paint for Dana. Also orig.owner said some 375hp cars bought from Dana were painted same color

Kurt thanks for your reply. Have sent two others but dont think they have gone through.
Car was bought from Dana I am told Dana only offered this color. I had a NAPA rep. who said he was a muscle car appraiser look at the car several years ago. He came back that it was a Dana color. Orig. owner positively said color was Mclaren orange. The color was definately done by factory. Build date matches rest of numbers on car the only other thing unusual is the smog pump cast #s dont match #s in definitive book. Original owner says that system is original and dates do match. Could ZZ instead of -- indicate special paint because of early build date? Body plate appears to be unmolested(has rubber type substance in center of rivits). Could it have been that Chevy screwed up????
NO I couldn't have said that about my most beloved Chevy I apologize. Please Lord don't let me burn in Hell! Please let me know and other info that you need.

Thank

Dale

Funny thing, i was wondering why my 68 Camaro SS 396 has a paint code of Z-Z and is supposed to be British Green and is Orange. Maybe this is why.

68 here with 03C date and ZZ paint code... British Racing Green was original color as found under interior panels. I think it's a Pa. bought car but have no papers (was a 6 cylinder  )

What are the odds of it getting the wrong tag ? Could there be a green car with an orange tag out there ?

Doug,
Orange was not a regularly available color in 68. Did you see the link I posted?

Missed it and should know that :clonk:

Mine's an 03C car with ZZ code, so I guess the "special paint code" was in Jan or Feb ?
