I have managed to find what appears to be a cherry 480 distributor. I have not purchased it yet, but I will if you guys think its the real deal. It looks virgin to me. 201 unit and 532 cam. Here is a picture he let me get of the numbers. Please let me know what you guys think.

Looks like a restamp to me. The horizontal lines should continue through behind the 480 and the date code. Looks like it's been smoothed down and then restamped.

Should the font of the "1" in the date code be the same as in the part number? I don't know, I've never really noticed before weather they are different. If the part # and date code were stamped at the same time, it seems that the fonts would be the same.

I have seen other 1's like that in other distributors date codes. I am going back over today to check it again and see if I can feel any polished down areas around the numbers.

IMO this is a restamped housing. Check out this Ebay auction:

how is a restamp possible, when you have to take off the original numbers, therefore taking off extra metal ?wouldnt that be really obvious?
does a block have to be decked in order for it to be restamped ....look decent..
are there any tell-tell signs for a block?

Possibly built some extra metal up on the old numbers, ground it down and stamped the new numbers?

Notice the horizontal lines that continue through the numbers and date code.

I went back and checked it out again. It doesn't appear to have been ground down and built back up or anything. No low spots. Its more dirty than anything. All the correct parts are the. So I made the purchase. Still has the delco condenser too.

The distributor looks fine based on the pic (always better to actually see the item). Looks like someone used a wire wheel to clean it up.
