View Full Version : 67 Camaro Decode
kwissman Aug 5th, 03, 05:02 PM Hi,
I would like to see what this decodes as. I belive it to be a 67 ss 350 car, but the engine is gone. I has what appears to be the orginal M-20, 12 bolt with 3.31 gears, hanger for dual exhaust on drivers side, but no traction bar on the car. Also, I remember reading about differences in the frames with there being a Large round hole or a slot. My frame original subframe had a slot.

HawaiianCamaro Aug 5th, 03, 07:11 PM Nice car. Could be a SS350 or L30 car. I would be looking for a build sheet with a Matching VIN. Check under the seats front and back, in the seat backs, under the dash and on top of the gas tank.
Good luck

drdave69 Aug 6th, 03, 02:41 AM Correct me if I am wrong but, if the car has an original Muncie in it, then it would be an SS. I thought the L30 came with the Saginaw.
kwissman Aug 6th, 03, 03:53 AM What is strange about this car is that when I got it there were 4 leaf springs on it with the correct 12 bolt spring pads. I have not been able to find the rear axle codes. It also had 4 wheel drums. I does have what appears to be an original SS gas cap with the wire retainer.
kwissman Aug 6th, 03, 03:55 AM I am pretty sure that there is no build sheet. The gas tank was replaced by the previous owner and the carpet and dash have been completly disassembled.
Mark C Aug 6th, 03, 05:27 AM no multi leaf springs in 67 on any Camaro, including Z28's or Big Blocks. If the car has a Muncie it's an L48 SS, if it has a Saginaw it's an L30. Look to see where the Speedometer cable goes thru the firewall. Above the accelerator cable at the front edge of the trans tunnel indicates a Muncie transmission, Above the fuse block on the fender side of the steering column indicates Saginaw (or any automatic) transmission. Disc brakes were not required on an SS until the 1969 model year, so an SS could have 4 wheel drums in 67 or 68.
Kurt S Aug 12th, 03, 04:26 PM What's the trans code?
The trans code is on the passenger side, stamped on the rear edge of the maincase.
The axle code is located on the passenger side axle tube. Look under 'Decoding' on the CRG website for a great sketch of the location.

kwissman Aug 12th, 03, 04:39 PM I will have to look for the trans code, I have it written down somewhere. Here is the rear axle code.
BU 0527G2

Mark C Aug 12th, 03, 05:25 PM That's a 69 3:73 Posi rear axle built on May 27th (69) in the GM gear and Axle Plant on the 2nd shift with an Eaton Posi unit. Doesn't go in this car.
