Hi Friends,
I am a first time user who has recently entered the World of Chevy, from the land of Mopar (please don't hold that against me).Two days ago I bought a 69 camaro pace convertible (I think)that has been sitting in a garage since 1981.The protecto plate has the Z11 designation. The Vin # 124679N617205 appears on the dash, cowl and behind the heater box.The last 4 digits of Vin appear on the 4 speed transmission...(7205.The exhaust manifolds are correct...(according to the Camaro White Book). Not being familiar with Chevy #'s I was hoping if someone can help me determine if the engine is correct????I don't know where to look for the Vin # on the block and I have yet to find it. The only markings on the block is the code T(or it could be a 1)0306JB ...Is this the correct engine? Any way I can tell? Thank you in advance and I appreciate your time and effort in "schooling" this newbie......
Sincerely

Congratulations. The JB engine code is for a 396/325HP with manual transmission. Try looking for your serial number by the oil filter. Sounds like you found a good car.

Thanks,I am truly excited but I am still a bit confused.....Your advice that it is a 4 speed MANUAL based on the "JB" code pleases me but why when I look up the code I find it listed as 396/powerglide?????Do different books (based on year published?) carry different interpetations??????
Thanks for your time
paul

JB in 69 is a 396 manual trans. Doesn't tell you which manual trans, 3 or 4 speed.

Could you post the #'s off of the trim tag?
What are the other stamped #'s off of the trans (eg P9C05)?
The protect-o-plate is in the warranty book, do you have it too?

Anxiously await the trim tag data. http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif
