Chris Edwards May 30th, 02, 12:01 PM ok ill do my best, theres alot of #'s but the important one is P8K05D
P=Muncie 4 SPd
8=1968
K05 = Sept 5th
D=Day shift
it probably went into a 1969 model car, I'm still working on what it came out of,(looks like a camaro or Fbird to me) as so far your 4spd codes are the same as the camaro decoding charts say

NealM May 30th, 02, 12:09 PM On Muncies, the second number is the year of the car it went to and not the year it was built. If it is an 8 then it was in a '68 car.
secndgn May 30th, 02, 12:11 PM Its an M20 by the number of rings on the input(2). It was also installed in a 1968 Pontiac by looking at the partial vin.
Chris Edwards May 30th, 02, 12:12 PM How many would the M21 have?

Chris Davis May 30th, 02, 12:18 PM I can not read all the numbers in your second photo, Dscf0037. The P=Muncie, K=July, 05=Fifth of the month, ?Suffix=First gear ratio. The rest is as follows.
Main case = 3925660 = 1968 - 1970 Ratios: M20 2.52 1st , M21 2.20 1st, M22 2.20 1st
Tail housing = 3857584 = 1966 - 1970 Passenger side speedo, 27 spline

ochrisl May 30th, 02, 12:39 PM Wow thanks for the quick replies!The #'s that you couldnt read are p80k5e.So its an m20?Is that the good one?Is that close ratio?I have two and i want to put the the better one in my car.I'll work on getting the #s off the other one.Thanks
Chris Davis May 30th, 02, 01:07 PM This should be a wide ratio with a 2.52 to 1 first gear.
elcamino May 30th, 02, 01:43 PM Photo 8 shows the VIN derivative
28U174252 decodes as
2 = Pontiac Division
8 = 1968
U = Lordstown Ohio final assembly, where they build Firebirds up April of 1969.
174252 = Last 6 from VIN

1964 Chevrolet Impala 2 Dr Sport Coupe
Kurt S May 30th, 02, 05:49 PM A M20 vs a M21. Neither is better, per se, just different.
I'd rather have the wide ratio for the deeper first gear.

ochrisl May 30th, 02, 06:45 PM What is it worth?I got it from my bro for$150.I plan to hang on to them both but would like to know what there worth.Thanks.
NastyZ May 31st, 02, 01:09 PM It's worth more than $150. http://www.camaros.net/forum/wink.gif
elcamino Jun 1st, 02, 04:04 AM Hard to determine value on used parts. It could be good or junk.
Its only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.
