The water pum p on my car is a replacement. I am looking into getting a date correct one but need some advice.

My car is a 10B, early 69 build. Engine is sept. 5, 1968 assembly.

I can pick up a H368, which is august 3, 1968.

Would this be correct, does the "8" indicates build year or model year.

thanks in advance.

The "8" would be the year of the casting.
Sounds close enough for me.
Is the casting number 3931065 ?

Yes it is a "065" casting. Does $100 sound close for this?

Is it a good pump? I've picked up cores for $5 to 20 at swap meets, etc....

H 3 68 is a Tonawanda water pump (2-digit year code), and would be technically correct only for a Tonawanda engine ("T" prefix on the stamp pad); if you have a Flint engine ("V" prefix on the stamp pad), you need a Saginaw-cast pump with a single-digit year number ("8" instead of "68").

Sometimes you can be lucky enough to order a rebuilt one from your local parts house and get the correct #. Good luck, John

I agree with 69DZ - I have a local parts house that has let me dig throught their 'rebuilds' for years to find good date '608 pumps. One guy that used to work there even checked the new pumps and called me - ask around, you might hit on a fellow car buff - it can't hurt. Remember - they made thousands of most pumps, so they aren't hard to find.
