I'm looking to by a project car. I've located a 1969 Camaro reported to be an RS and Z28, but the vin tag does not have an X_ _ or Z_ _ on it. I decoded the vin number and it was built in Norwood. The color was Hugger Orange with Houndstooth seats. I'm working from pictures but I can see a shadow of a Z28 badge rear center below trunk lid. Also a 302 badge on the side of the cowl induction hood. It has hide away headlights. It has disc brakes in front. I'm wondering if this combination is possible? I have seen a couple of RS Z28 combinations for sale but I don't know if they are authentic either. But they have vin tags that have a body code X_ _ or Z_ _ which gives some bases for the car being a Z28. The project car I'm looking at does not have that on the vin tag. I'm new to the Camaro scene and could use some input from anyone who could shed some light on this.
Thanks, Popeye

Post the cowl tag and VIN numbers here for decode. It was possible to get a RS-Z28 in 69. Does it have an engine or any drive train?
How many fuel lines?

10A was prior to X codes.....and Z codes for that matter. After 12A, X33 and X77 were codes for Z/28. No Z/28 used Z codes in 69. Z10 and Z11 were for pace cars, starting in March 69.
There are lots of other things to look for to verify Z/28. Jonesy mentioned a couple, but do a search in Tag Team section for lots more to look for.

The cowl hood you mention was added to the car. Cowl hoods were not available on Norwood cars which do not have Xcodes. Do not use that as a basis for determining if the car is an original Z.
