Flint Engine assembly plant. Most small block Chevies were built there.

2 engine plants in Flint.

Here's the complete list:

F-Flint Motor Facility
H-Hydramatic
K-Canada, McKinnion Industries
M-Mexico
S-Saginaw Service
T-Tonanwanda
V-Flint Engine Plant

As a general rule, single digit suffixs were used untill 1964, 2 digits were used untill 1969 and 3 digits were used from 1970 to present. There are a few exceptions. VIN information stamped on the block as early as 1962 and is stamped on all blocks from 1968 on.

The Flint Motor Facility (F code) built the 6 cylinder engines. The Flint Engine Facility (V code) built 8 cylinder small blocks.

Flint Motor (old 6-cylinder plant) and Flint Engine (newer V-8 plant) shared the "F" prefix until the start of the 1967 model year production, when the Flint Engine (V-8 plant) prefix was changed from "F" to "V".
