Anybody know what a 8.2 10 bolt posi with a JD code originally came out of? Just curious.

On second inspection, it seems it's not an 8.2 (no "crease" on cover) An 8.5 maybe? The complete code is JD G147 1. Also, does anyone make a conversion u-joint that will fit 8.2/8.5 combo? I'm assuming the pinion is a different diameter so as to not allow switching yokes?? Any info. would be much appreciated.

I know you guys love a challenge... Any ideas on the "JD" code?

Mark

Besides Jack Daniels that is... http://www.camaros.net/forum/biggrin.gif

The only think I could find in my Catalogue of Camaro ID Numbers 67-93 book is that 1982 and 1983 Camaro Rear Ends had numbers that started with J, but I didn't see any JDGs there. That's all I have, maybe this may help someone else narrow it down.

Thanks for the feedback. It has the same dimensions as a first gen. Camaro (length, distance between spring perches etc.). It has the "newer" style pinion yoke though. I'm just trying to figure out what it came out of for parts purposes. Thanks for any info. you guys can come up with. It stumped me...

JD G147 1

JD - Are u sure of this, the only car that has any axle codes beginning with a J are Nova's in 1971 tru 1973 but no JD, there is a JQ, JB, JC amoung others, these may look like a D. Its possible its not a Chevy.
G - Chevrolet Gear & Axle
147 - Day of year built
1 - 1st shift.

I'm not sure what it came out of originally. It was in a 69 Camaro SS. It is a JD code though. Maybe a Nova "cousin" in that year range? Does an 8.2 posi have a smooth cover instead of the inverted "V" like the open rears? Thanks for the info.

mbrekke, I have a JD rear with monos as well, date code is a 2 (72' 82'??) Found a JD listing for a 75 Nova which was a 8.5 3.08 rear, which is what I have. I have posi, but I think it was added, so the JD code would be an open rear.
The 8.5s have little ears on the casting at the bottom, 8.2 no ears. Had a link to the Nova site, I'll have to find it and edit this.

Later, Kevin
www.noveresource.com (http://www.noveresource.com) look under axle code, lots of good info there!

Thanks for the info Kevin. I was thinking it came from a Nova or one of it's cousins. Someone must have added the posi to this one too then. Got all the seals, brake lines, wheel clyinders etc. replaced. Now I just need to get it under the car!
