good evening i have a protecto plate, with the owners manual and warranty book for my 68 camaro, i have decoded most of but i am having problem only on 1 thing the identification for the rear end,
the protecto plate forr the area that covers the rear end shows,
BP0617G
basically i got the 06=june 17=17th
G=Chevy gear +axle however all the sites I checked show the first 2 letters starting with a "p" mine starts with a B if it said for example PB0617G then my rear end has a stock 3.36 in it. It shows BP instead, could the protecto plate that is glued on the last page of the warraty book have an error and simply put the first two letters as BP by accident instead of BP? because BP doesnt represent any camaro rear end please help thanks god bless

BP is a 1968 Camaro rear axle code, it's also a 67 and 69 code. In the case of a 68 or 69 axle it's a 2.73 10 bolt non posi axle. In 67 its a 3.08 10 bolt non posi
PB is a 3.31 12 bolt axle. Shouldn't be to hard to tell them apart. What is stamped on the axle itself, assuming it is the original?
But in response to the real question, yes the protecto plates frequently have typos in them.

i cant find anything on the "BP" evrything starts with PB thats why i think it a typo, but yes it does have the original rear end in it, its at the body shop right now being stripped down ect,
where would i look to see the stamp number on the rear axle you are talking about, its difficult to tell, where did you get your info for the 10 bolt non posi at? I dont think my 68 has posi traction, i simply dont know, it ,may very well be a lower gear ratio as you have pointed out, i would like to make sure because its easier to get the rear end rebuilt when you know what you want lol thanks..

If you had a 69 Parts and Accessories manual (P&A 30A) you would be able to find BP as a Camaro code. Your not using some Camaro Restoration Book as a reference are you? Unless it's one by Jerry Macneish I wouldn't take it as gospel.
Look here for the location of the stamps:

Knight,
Here is a link that shows you exactly where to look for the codes and dates on your diff. This link is for 1968 12 bolts. Simply edit the numbers 68 and 69 in the URL and you can access 69 codes as well.
