My question for you guru's is I know my 375HP69 had a kick down switch on the TH400. But did it also have a idle solenoid on the front of the 4346 Holley? Any help would be great!

No, not on the Holley.

This is one of the CRGs topics of research. Some SHP bb/autos have it; some don't. Original road test engine bay photos of a ZL1 and an L89 show no solenoid. But some original cars do have it. It seems to be interspersed date-wise. A March L78 car has one; a June COPO doesn't.

The Assembly Manual shows assembly of the parts involved and gives the impression all should have been equipped with it.

I found a switch of some kind on the accelerator pivot that holds the cable that goes to the carb. The pivot is attached to the firewall, the switch with 2 wires actually hits the block at closed throttle. Is that the thing you are talking about? If not what might that be on my 350/255 with TH350 tranny?

What you've described sounds like a kick-down switch.

The question is actually about fast-idle solenoids. As idle speeds were raised it became difficult to acomplish with a screw on the carb linkage. At some point it would hold the carb open enough to cause the engine to diesel when the ignition was switched off. So a solenoid with an adjustable plunger was carb-mounted for most cars with automatic transmissions. Wired to the ignition, it energized when the engine was started.

Thanks guys! My origional engine wires were to cut & spliced to tell if it was there so I'll leave it off(for now) Thanks again. Next week it goes back to orig. "72 72"!!!!

Click, ya, you're referring to the TV (Throttle Valve) cable for the TH350 trans. The TV changes the shift points with different accelerating conditions and downdshifting. I've never seen a idle solenoid on a Holley.

Since there were perhaps 1,200 or so SHP bb/auto 1969 Camaros built it is not likely you would have seen one.

Check section M40 page A10 of the 1969 Camaro Assembly manual.

The switch description provided:

"found a switch of some kind on the accelerator pivot that holds the cable that goes to the carb. The pivot is attached to the firewall, the switch with 2 wires actually hits the block at closed throttle"

Sounds like a Cowl induction Hood switch installed backwards. Is it attached to the flat arm that runs vertically from the pedal linkage to the accelerator linkage on the carb, with a bracket welded to the flat arm with a circular hole in it? Does one of the wires run to a grommet in the firewall about an inch above at the left side (looking at the firewall from the engine compartment) the fuse connector? The switch is supposed to hit the firewall at full throttle, not the block at closed throttle. I see your car does have a cowl induction hood, is it original to the car?

The TH350 does not use an electric kickdown switch, it uses a mechanical one attached to the carb linkage.

Thanks guys, thats it!! The cowl hood is not original to it, the seller told me that previous owner put it on. Its steel too but I followed the wires as you said, Mark, and yes one goes thru the firewall and the other to the cowl flapper. At closed throttle the back side of the switch lays against the block, on open throttle, yes the switch part hits the firewall. There was some built up silicon on the firewall too, perhaps they needed to adjust the switch that way?
Thanks guys, that answers the mystery for me.

Yes, I had forgotten Click said there was two wires coming from it..

Wiliams, yes, very few made. I meant in referrence books as well. The assy manual doesn't show an idle solenoid.

The L78/auto idle solenoid assembly is indeed in the 1969 Camaro AIM; section M40 page A10.

O.K. guys, I guess if I need it, I'll put one on. I have to get a new wiring harness anyway. Thanks again!
