I have a 68 rs/ss. The previous owner installed full quarters and a new rear valance. He did not re-install the back-up lights because he drag raced the car and did not need them. Help!! I am putting the car back to original and I need measurements as to where to cut out for the lights. I bought a stencil kit and they are not in there. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!!

When I replaced the rear panel in my RS I cut out the backup light section and used it for a template to cut out the new holes. My car is a '69 so they won't help you any. Maybe you can find someone who will let you make a paper template off of their car.

Dumb question, is the '67 is the same as the '68? I have a '67 and would be happy to measure mine tonight. I have not reinstalled the lights yet so it would be easy to get the exact size of the holes and location. Just not sure if my car is the same as your year.

I just had to do the same cuts. Use the mount holes already in the inner valance to position the mount location (from inside) drill mount holes through outer valance. then use a cut off wheel to cut the housing hole in the valance. Make sure you have the housings if you start from the mount holes you will do fine.
The Ricks Camaro site has a restoration project with good pictures of the cut outs as well.

I don't know if a 67 is the same as a 68 valance. Maybe other people can help us. I really appreciate your help. Let's see if anyone can help us out. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by denverRS/SS:

Here are the measurements from a 68 RS. They look to be the original holes. The opening itself is 4 5/8 X 2 1/16. The corners are slightly rounded. The top edge is 1 1/4 inches down from the crease in the metal by the bumper. From the edge of the valence to the outside edge of the hole, measuring straight across is 5 1/2 inches on top and 4 5/8 inches on bottom. These measurements are if the corners were not rounded. In other words, I drew a pencil line to make the rounded corners square to get an accurate measurement.

The 67 & 68 RS back up lamp housing assembly is the same for both years, so I don't think they are located in a different place, shouldn't be such a change in sheet metal perforations in a model car just introduced.

Hi. I posted all the measurements required in a previous post. I'm not sure how to attach the measurements here, but if you go and search for RS BACK UP in general tech
dated 06/21 1999 you will find all of the correct measurements.
