Hello everyone! This is my first time posting on this board but I have been visiting the sit for quite some time. Just glad to be a part of it now.

I have been a huge fan of the first gen f-bodies and have been looking for one for the past 8yrs. I now have a chance to posibly buy a 68 camaro but I dont know how to tell what the car was originally (RS, SS, Z28...). I cant look at the car because Im stationed over seas for the time being. My father in law has been talking with the guy who is selling it and has got some info from him. This is what I have been told. Its a 68 coupe. They say it began life as a SS. He said it had a 350 but now has a 400sbc. It has what he says is the original 4 speed and 12 bolt. He said it has the wider chrome just under the side windows. It has the "original" SS hood with the hide a way headlight option on it now. If that came with it or not he doesnt know. He says it will need just about every panel replaced because of rust. The whole car is there but is not street worthy. Is there a way I can tell just by asking questions or haveing someone look at it I can trust. They are working on getting me some pics but I dont have them yet. They want $3400 firm for it. I want a first gen so bad but I dont want to buy something that will make me regret getting myself into this project. Thanks for any help in advance.

Matt

Sorry guys I should have done the search first. It doesnt look like I will be able to tell if it was an SS or not without the original 350 or any of the paper work. I think it might be a good deal even though it needs a lot of work if its a real SS. If not I will have a hard time spending that kind of money for a plain jane camaro. If you do have any info for me I still appreciate it. Thanks again.
