i've got my motor up and running and it has the worst raw gas smell you can imagine. you cannot stay in the building, it also don't seem to idle down like it should. the carb is a 4 barrel q-jet w/ the motor being a 350 in a 69 camaro. any ideas.i've got a wire running from the batt to the pos on the coil, and using a remote starter. i don't have my front clip on or wiring in is the reason i'am doing this. the carb don't seem to be flooding after you cut it it off, and it cranks good.any ideas?????

You ether has a leak in your gas system or the carb is set to rich. Look to see if all your fuel lines are tight. Also see if you can identify where the smell is coming from (tail pipe or engin). Good luck

If the carb has been apart, the metering rods may be disengaged from the jets or jammed, making the carb run full rich at part throttle. There are also plugs that can leak but they would make the engine hard to start too.
Don't run 12volts to the coil without a ballast resistor, or you will fry the points.

i forgot to mention this carb was on a 71 impala w/a 402 in it. is it possible that the jets are different and to big, cause the fumes are defintaly coming out the exhaust.
