The rockers would be semi-gloss black if the car were built with style trim group. This included bright drip rail trim, wheel opening moldings, rear quarter louvers, bright trim on the tail lamps and headlamp housings. Certain darker colors did not receive the black rocker paint.

Style trim group was included with rally-sport.

If you like the look, paint 'em black.

Post your trim tag numbers if you have the X-codes on it. That can indentify if your car had the style trim group.

My '67 SS/RS was black under the rocker panel "chrome strips" when new, (i.e. below the doors).
Does anybody know the scoop on the rearend section where the tailights are being "blacked out". Is this an option on some year cars or what???
Just curious. pdq67
PS. By the way, the post to another site on the rear spoilers was really great. I swore that I saw a narrow low spoiler on a first gen car one time but could never substantiate it, and lo and behold the post told the story on the narrow spoiler being installed on some '69's. FANTASTIC!!!

The tail light panel was painted black on big block cars (SS396).

Hey trezpan, let me know when your car is done, I'm dying to check out a finished Hugger Orange Z28. Mine is in a ton of pieces in the garage getting ready for the restoration. It is Orange under the rockers as well.

Hey Pop D Top,

Is the "blacked out" tail-end good for all years first generation cars or only '69 ones??? Because if a '67 can wear it "legit", I will paint mine that way as well as make the "bumble-bee" SS stripe and pin striping black too.
Heck, I might paint the tail black even if I couldn't order mine that way, because I kinda like it. pdq67

The X33 Z/28 should have the Style Trim Group which includes the black body sills except on colors 51, 57, 61, 67, according to the Camaro reference book.

67-69 SS cars with any 396 engine received the semi-gloss black upper rear body panel. Some very early production COPO cars coded X22 or X66 also had it. This may have been excluded with certain darker paint colors as the rocker paint was; a black 69 I know of did not have the semi-gloss treatment. 396 Pace Cars also did not.

Was that the blue car you told me about before in Hamilton? This time of year, weather permitting, I'm always out somewhere. I was probably fishing on the Delaware or playing volleyball. I figure that by the end of the month I will be done with all the "fun" activities and be working on the car again. I've got the crossram setup sitting in my extra bedroom if you want to check it out.

On the big block cars that are black from the factory the sail panel was gloss black instead of semi-gloss black. All other colors had semi-gloss black sail panels. (Chevy did this to identify the big block camaros to the mustang drivers. The back of the car is all they ever saw!!)
