click Nov 2nd, 03, 07:35 AM Hi Weston, sure sounds like another LM1 , here is the decode:
1 = Chevrolet
2 = Camaro
4 = 8-cylinder engine
37 = coupe body
9 = 1969 model year
L = Los Angeles, CA assembly plant (Van Nuys)
510622 = vehicle serial number sequence
Decode for body number: 198132
11D = Built the Fourth week of November.
69-12437 = Coupe.
LOS = Built in Van Nuys California.
721 = Standard Medium Green Bucket Seats.
59-59 = Car Color is Frost Green
U189 = internal plant scheduling code.
The engine is Towonda built Nov 14 of 69 and tied to a TH-350 3 speed automatic.
Other things to look for are dual fuel lines and see if the original Roch Qjet 4 barrel is still on it hooked up to those 2 lines. If its a true RS, there should be an extra solenoid on the wiper motor housing, headlight washing nozzles in front of the headlight doors. Washer fluid bucket on the passenger side innner fender. Back up lights below the rear bumper, brake lights have a horizontal chrome line thru them. Chrome trim around the wheel wells. Take some photos and if you cant post them, email them to me and I will post them for you.
There is a good chance that if nobody has ever pulled the gas tank, your build sheet will be up on top of it there. That is the first thing you should do when you get it in the shop. Drop that tank and carefully remove the paper, dont rush it, if its stuck or a rust proofing coating over it, treat it like gold. That sheet can add thousands of dollars to the value of your car if its readable.
Let us know any other numbers such as off the axle in the rear, passenger side facing forward and axle casting numbers near the pumpkin.
Your car was built almost exactly a month after mine. Your Vin is 4,773 after mine, your body code is 15,749 after mine.
Im thinking of forming an informal LM1 club, will keep you advised, very nice find you got there. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
rich pern Nov 3rd, 03, 11:40 AM Hi guys, There is another post about a Lm1, it is Topic: Correct production dates for a 69?.
Here is my post there. I am interested in a LM1 data page.

Hi Guys,
I also have what I believe to be a 69 LM1. It is a 09D car (4th week Sep). It has the fuel return, 12 bolt, multi leaf, M20 4 speed and of course the Lm1 350. If you guys want to start a registry on this option, I was planning a web site about the LM1, (registerd, but not up yet)www.LM1Option.com (I own a hosting/networking company here in New Orleans) and can mirror the data there. Let me know what you think.
P.S. Here is a pic of the trim tag on my car

Im getting info. back from some of the data gurus and will start a seperate thread for LM1 folks soon.
Deer hunting starts this coming weekend, that might delay things a few days :D

R/S 350 Nov 3rd, 03, 05:27 PM What exactly is the criteria for a LM1? Just curious because I thought it was just a engine code. Are you guys talking about 350 RS cars specifically? My 69'RS has a 12 bolt and 5 leaf multi springs. The car has 350 badges but it has a 406 in it now. Is it possible it could have been one?
Kurt S Nov 3rd, 03, 09:08 PM RS 350,
What's the build date of your car?
click Nov 4th, 03, 04:57 AM RS350 have you posted your VIN and Cowl Tag info. in here yet? If not please consider doing that so a data base can be updated to include yours.
The primary LM1 feature is the 350 - 255 HP engine with HQ HR HS suffix on the stamping pad behind the alternator, which told you if it had a manual or auto tranny with it. It was used with 4 barrel roch Qjet carb, utilizing the 2nd or return fuel line.
It replaced the 327 in the 69 build year but only for a few months.
There is excellent reading about it in the www.camaros.org (http://www.camaros.org) site under 69 decode section.
http://www.camaros.org/diffs69.shtml here is part of their info:
"The LM1 moderate-compression 4-barrel carburetor 350ci engine was introduced at the beginning of the 1969 model year as the replacement for the L30 327/275HP engine. The LM1 was, in turn, replaced mid-way through the model year by the lower-performing L65 2-barrel carburetor 350ci engine, and most of the higher performance features of the LM1-equipped vehicles were not transferred to the L65 units. Even more so than with the L30/M20 in 1968, it was possible with the LM1 to create a SS-350 look-alike in most performance features. The absence of SS badges and SS hood/hinges, both easily added, are the only easily distinguishable clues between a L48-powered SS-350 and a LM1 with added J52 disc brakes, N10 dual exhaust, D90 stripe, one of the 70-series tire options, and the Z87 custom interior (which provides hood insulation). Closer examination of the original engine is required to note the lower compression heads, the distributor code, and/or the engine application code. The 7-inch SS wheels were also not available on the LM1/M20."
It had nothing to do with body or accents nor was it only found on RS cars, it could be ordered on virtually any car except the Z or big block of course. With the LM1 it seems most of them also had the 12 bolt and 5 leaf spring setup perhaps to handle the extra horsepower. The CRG (camaros.org) folks are also doing some research into this option package as well. Seems there were just over 10,000 of them built.
Not exactly rare but surely a talking point for an option that was only available for a short time.

Rear Axle# BL1122G2
Trany# Y9 S 16D
Kurt S Nov 10th, 03, 08:45 AM Thanks!
Does it have disc brakes on it? Brake valve on subframe under driver's door?
Westonz28 Nov 10th, 03, 11:22 AM No power barkes but has the brake valve under the door.
click Nov 10th, 03, 01:04 PM Does your car have A/C? Or maybe did at one time?
One theory is heavier weight of a/c parts meant the need for a different balance of braking, hence one theory for the valve under the drivers door.

paulm Nov 10th, 03, 01:22 PM Mine never had AC, but still had the valve under the door.
Westonz28 Nov 10th, 03, 01:29 PM No A/C on my Camaro.
rich pern Nov 11th, 03, 03:52 PM Mine does not have AC either, but does have the vavle.
