I just purchased what I as told to be a 200 4r transmission from a 1986 Monte Carlo SS for my 68 Camaro and I would like to be sure that it is indeed true.
The number on the transmission tag is as follows; 345 862HCF1830. Also does any one know the actual gear ratio of each of the 4 gears. Thanks for any replies.

I would try deciphering your numbers of the tranny here: 200-4R numbers (http://members.aol.com/powerrslid/thm2004r.html) .
From what I can tell from their chart an '86 Monte SS should have a CZ code on the trans, yours has an HC which is listed as unknown.

The 200R4 has relatively the same 1-3 ratios as a turbo 350. I am going to do a 200R4 conversion instead of the 700 for that reason. Paul M on this board has one out of a cadillac in his 69 it shifts nice and it seems to be doing fine behind his 383. Maybe he'll pipe in here. The Monte Carlo and Grand National 200R4 transmissions are factory worked to hold higher HP compared to run of the mill 200's. The 200R4 website linked above has a bunch of good info..
