Hello, read the tag like this:

09D: built 09=9th month D=4th week
ST68: body trim style 1968
12437: 1=Chevrolet 2=Camaro 4=v8 37=coupe
NOR: built in Norwood, Ohio
12234: "serial number" of the car
TR722: Trim type/color code 722=gold interior with standard bucket seats
N2= body color Cordovan Maroon with white stripes and black vinyl top

Don't know for sure if it had a black vinyl top.....can someone correct me if I'm wrong...

There is no way to tell from the tag if a '68 is a true RS or not. You should examine the wiring harness in the trunk for the backup lamps (RS' have these on the valence panel below the bumper). If there is no splicing of wires you most likely have a factory RS wiring harness. Another way is to remove a backup lamp assembly- if the hole is cut out (rough edges) then someone cloned your RS. If the hole appears to be stamped out (factory pressing) then you, at least, have an original RS tailpan. Also check the firewall below the master cylinder. There should be a large hole (7/8"?) for the headlight vacuum lines. If that is there your car's body was configured for the RS package from the factory.

The color codes you have listed are for Gold interior and Maroon paint (N) with black vinyl top (2). I doubt very much if your car had white stripes with the black vinyl top. Most likely no stripes. That color combo just doesn't fit. Are you sure the trim code isn't 712 (standard black interior)? Gold interior with a black vinyl top on a Maroon car doesn't fit well either!
