View Full Version : What are the #'s off the 69 Z28 Hurst shifter?
Jeff H Dec 29th, 00, 11:00 AM Does anybody have the part #'s handy for the handle(round one), shifter body and mounting bracket for the 69 Z28 factory Hurst shifter? Is the handle part # 3130 or 3138?

trentonZ28 Dec 30th, 00, 03:14 AM Hey JohnZ,where did you get that part number, 9792435,for the shifter handle? I'm not familiar with A.I.M. Can a round bolt-on handle be purchased separately?
JohnZ Dec 30th, 00, 02:34 PM Part #'s came from the Assembly Instruction Manual ($20 from any of the parts houses) - nobody should be without one. The 1969 factory-installed Hurst shifter didn't have a bolt-on lever - the lever had a barbed spring retainer on the end that snapped into the lever on the shifter. I haven't seen anyone selling just the factory round lever (which only fits the factory shifter). Rick's occasionally has used shifters and round levers, but the price is "CALL", which means expen$ive. They do sell a non-factory Hurst shifter and flat lever which fits console installations perfectly for $200, but the flat lever is a giveaway if originality is your goal.

trentonZ28 Dec 30th, 00, 04:33 PM Thanks for the reply about the shifter part number.I knew that the original shifters were round, but when the subject of separate part numbers came up,I got lose.I didn't realize they sold the items separately.
X77D80 Dec 31st, 00, 05:15 AM My Shifter says:
HURST
COMPETITION/PLUS
U.S. PAT. NO. 3215274
Then off to the side is a stamp: 1905110 (the 0 might be a C but I doubt it.)
Anybody know what this number is??
By the way, it's a round handle shifter without stop bolts.

Boomhauer Dec 31st, 00, 01:12 PM I have a shifter here, the only numbers on the shifter body I see besides the patent # and date code is 3138. On the round shifter the only # I saw anywhere is at the bottom. It has 1 unreadable # and 325 are the last #s.This is from a 69 Z/28. I think these are the #s you need to look for to get the right used one.
Boomhauer Dec 31st, 00, 01:18 PM I just went back and looked at your post Jeff.I looked at that stuff this morning wrote it down, but now am unsure of which # was for what part.Let you know tommorow. 3138 was definitely one of the #s.
Boomhauer Jan 1st, 01, 03:00 PM I went down and double checked. The shifter body is 3138.The round stick looked like it had 4 #s(it might just be 3) the 3 readable ones are 325.Positive this time.
Jeff H Jan 2nd, 01, 04:49 AM That's the original factory installed shifter, right? Thanks.
Kurt S Jan 2nd, 01, 12:30 PM I've dug into these shifters quite a bit. There are no unique #'s on the 69 Camaro Hurst shifter bodies, though they may be date coded. The handles have a 5325 stamped in the slip-in tab.
They are easy to ID. That handle offset is unique.

Jeff H Jan 2nd, 01, 05:54 PM Thanks for all the #'s guys. My car has a Comp plus shifter with the original round stick welded to the Comp plus mount. It looks stock, but it isn't!

KevinW Jan 3rd, 01, 05:24 AM Jeff, I have 69 hurst shifter for my SS, plus some non 69 ones. You can look at them when you come over. I would still like to look at the manifolds. We haven't talked since trying to get together around turkey day. Give me a ring, Kevin

Jeff H Jan 3rd, 01, 03:42 PM I keep forgetting Kevin. Right now I'm in the process of buying some Corvette white ZR1 wheels and tires for my 93 Pace Car. I'm also hot on the trail of some 186 heads with dates that are a week before my engine. So I will most likely be selling the TRACO ported angle plug heads I have. This cold weather makes you lose track of time when you keep hoping for a decent day. Depending on whether or not the Giants win, I'll try calling you.
