Did the trunk of a real Z Have these? This is an LA car and all else looks OK! Mark C Aug 18th, 03, 03:22 PM All trunk lids have at least one set of emblem holes. Cars with a spoiler have 2 sets. Check the trunk spring rods, one will be larger than the other on an original spoiler car. The rods are not repro'ed so they are hard (not impossible) to come by. stingr69 Aug 18th, 03, 03:54 PM Factory spoiler cars have the emblem relocated up above the spoiler and have one of the trunk spring rods thicker than the other one. Dealer added spoilers discarded the emblem and have both rods the same thickness. The spoilers were not included as standard until April 69. As for the repro trunk rods - take a look in the latest Rick's catalog on page 181, Part number "PP-116". Did the trunk of a real Z Have these? This is an LA car and all else looks OK! Hey porschedave, I wouldn't put much value into determining whether the car was an original spoiler car. My original RS Z/28 came stock without spoilers and with a flat hood. Many if not all LA built cars had the chassis build sheet on top of the gas tank when they left the assembly plant. If you can get ahold of that you will be able to verify if it's an original Z. Good luck and keep us posted, Doug porschedave Aug 18th, 03, 07:45 PM Thanks Doug, So you are telling me that some of the real Z28 cars had no rear spoiler at all? This car has a 302 not matching.M21 and 373 posi. all Z28 emblems appear to not have been drilled out. I did take the tank out and no Tag there. Thanks for the input.......Dave z28doug Aug 18th, 03, 09:13 PM Dave, Some 69 Z/28's definitly came frome the factory without spoilers. I don't know what the percentage was. Also flat hoods were the norm not the cowl hoods. I have read of some guesstaments that about 8 out of 10 69 Z's came with flat hoods. I have a 69 Hot Rod magazine that road tests the car and the one they tested has a flat hood. The Z/28 emblems on the fenders could be a good indicator of originality if the fenders are original as the typical cubic inch numbers would be drilled differently. That is definitly not a proof positive way to decided it's original. Unfortunatly without some kind of paperwork an LA car cannot be positivly identified as an original Z/28. The Norwood cars have an X33 or X77 on the cowl tag on the ones produced after December of 68. (not positive on the exact month) A few things come to mind that I would look for, but again you can't prove somebody didn't take a 69 6 cylinder plain jane and clone a Z. On spoiler cars, Fisher Body drilled the second set of emblem holes in the Body Shop (along with the spoiler stud holes - same fixture), and Fisher installed the rear spoiler as well, after taping over the standard pre-pierced emblem holes. graemlins/thumbsup.gif Unreal Aug 22nd, 03, 05:10 PM John, When you say taped over, what do you mean? Since it is visible from the openings in the underside of the deck lid, I want mine to look correct. I was planning to use dum-dum, but sounds like that is not correct. What do you suggest? How about the rubber-like strip used in the channel of the vertical quarter chrome? |
