thanks 67camaross350 for the info. i really do appreciate it. one more question for you, is there a way to tell if it is a r/s, ss, 396 car by any of the numbers? when i bought the car it had the hide-a- way headlites{vaccuum], big block heater core , it had an automatic trans [400], it looked to me that it had a stick at one time. it had all the r/s ss emblems on the car also. i have owned the car for 13 yrs and did a frame on about 11 yrs ago. i also forgot to tell you that it has a 396/mq code motor in it when it was purchased . got anymore help for me?thanks, mike

The hide-away lights lead you to the RS option but folks did switch a standard front to RS front sometimes.
The Auto tranny should be a four speed if the enigne is orginal.
Look to see for all the orginal RS equipment. Should also have a rubber gorment on the firewall with 2 hose holes in it. Look at the rear back up lights and see how the ires are feed through the trunk floor pan, these wires should also have rubber gorments where they pass through. See if the back up lights mounting holes are factory punched in or rough cut. Rough cuts suggests that they were done after the car left the factory. punched holes would mean factory provided thus RS.
MQ is the 396/375 HP engine that came in 68 Camaros. Is there a partial VIN stamped near the engine code numbers??? Whats the rest of the the numbers with the engine code? That will tell if the engine was built too early/just right or too late for your car? If its matches your VIN on your car I would say congrats you have a 68 L78 RS/SS car.
Other than the VIN and col tag teliling you what Daniel already stated, it will not tell you if its a RS/SS on a 68. Look for a build sheet somewhere in the car. Under the dash wadded up/under the seats in the springs (front and rear seats), on top of the gas tank. Did you get a POP with the car? if so that will tell you everything you would want to know without the hassle of the search
Also what hood does it have on it. Check for a rear tail pan being painted black also

12 bolt?
The axle code will tell us if it is original to the car. It is located on the passenger side axle tube. Look under 'Decoding' on the CRG website for a great sketch of the location.
