N = Norwood assembly
396804 = sequential VIN #
03B = Body built the second week of March.
714 = Black custom interior, bucket seats
96761 = Fisher body #

3935439 = 68-69 427
CE = Chevrolet Engine (replacement)

I don't think mountain green was an option for 68, CE is usually a replacement block. A quick search on this site for CE will give you more info than you can handle.

Thanks Dan I guess its possible its a dealer installed 427 with the March 68 build date, and CE870815 (1968 Tonowanda 20,815th unit built).

Very interesting to say the least.

You need to get the block casting date, as well as head dates, intake dates, etc to determine when the engine was made. The CE number won't tell you anything except that it is a replacement engine built during the 1968 model year. Could have been installed by a dealer, original owner, or anyone else along the cars ownership line. Wasn't installed by the factory.

Do you know who the original dealer was? If it's a Gibb, Dana, Motion, Scuncio, Yenko, etc. car then your chances of it being dealer installed greatly improve.

What's the axle code?
The axle code is located on the passenger side axle tube. Look under 'Decoding' on the CRG website for a great sketch of the location.
