I picked up a Muncie and a small block today, Farmers son was cleaning out his barn and said they were left over when his father has stock cars which was 23 years ago.
The numbers on the Muncie? are.
3831707 b176367 p0623 3851325
the engine is stamped TII06S or T1106S,definitly small block

Any idea what I got?
Thanks Bill

I was thinking all engine codes (letters at end of engine build date) were 2 digit until late 69, when they became 3 digit. Don't have my book with me, to double check. Get the casting numbers and casting date off the top back of the engine on the flange where the top of the bell housing bolts on. While you're at it, pull the valve covers and get the head numbers. Likely a mis-match, since it was a race car engine.

Looks like a 63 to 65 Muncie M20 or M21 transmission. If the speedometer cable is on the left side it is 63/64 to early 65 (2/65) if it is on the right then it is a late 65 (after 2/65).

Does it have a 3846429 or a 3857584 tail shaft extension, and a 7/8" diameter counterpin gear and no input shaft groove?

Engine code S is for a 62 327 used in Full sized cars equipped with a 2 spd powerglide transmission. T1106 indicates it was made in the Tonowanda Engine Plant on November 6th.

Thanks for the info. I pulled some parts and looked over the engine and trans, The trans looks pretty good except for syncronizers, the eng is scrap, threw two rods .
The tailshaft number is 3857584 and the speedometer is on the right side.
Thanks again Bill
