My camaro has been sitting for 7 years. I am getting ready to start. Changed oil, Added fresh water to radiator. Installed new plugs, rotor plugs, coil, battery, etc.

Should I first remove plugs, and squirt WD40 in cylinders and crank first ?

Should I try manual crank ? Do I do this by inserting longer bolts in the lower pulley and crank engine with bar ? (its an automatic - can't rock car to turn engine)

I just helped a friend with a simular situation. We pulled all of the plugs, squirted Marvel Mystery Oil in each cyl. then turned the engine over by hand 1/4 of a turn and let it sit for several hours. repeated this until two full turns had been done.
Then we brought it up to #1 top dead center and removed the distributor and ran a (home made, old distributor housing and distributor shaft) pre-oiler on a drill until we had good oil pressure.
Then we put it all back together and with fresh gas in the carb we fired it up. it started right up (smoked alittle, which cleared after a couple of minutes) and once it was warm we tuned it and now it runs great. He drives it everyday.

Right on with the Marvel Mystery Oil. Been there, done that. pdq67

Watch out for old gas it turns to varnish and will cause the carb gasquets to get brittle and leak. You might want to get a carb kit as insurance...

I can't argue with the mystery oil it's the best but WD40 will work and won't smoke as much.

I had to do the same thing last September to my BB 68. I used transmission fluing in the cylinder walls for the rings, and an old straight screwdriver ut into your drill, works great to spin the oil pump over manually. All the seals in my carb. were turned to mush, and it leaked someting terriable. I had it rebuilt and presto, my frires right up. I drove it for two days before all the major seals started leaking. head gasket, rear main seal,... so be prepaird to pull it and re-gasket it. good luck....

i bought a nice 63 2 door hardtop impala a couple of months back. it had been sitting in a garage since 93 and hadn,t been started. i also got the mystery oil out and in the plug holes it went.spun it over several times with plugs out.installed the plugs and she fired right up. been driving it since.so far good brakes and trans,hope the luck holds out.
