I bouhgt an '86 Camaro with a 2.8Liter V6 and an OD automatic. How can i tell whether its a 200-R4 or a 700-R4? None of the books i found were any help. All the spec sheets just say "4spd Automatic".

I do not think Camaros came with 200R's, but I could be wrong. All of mine have had 700's.
The 200 has a weird shape pan, while the 700 is fairly square (rectangular?)

Thanks. Someone else told me exactly the opposite, that the 2.8L only came with a 200-R4. I really hope that you are right. I do know that my dad's '82 Trans Am has a TBI 305 with a 200 tranny. But now that i think back, my tranny does have a rectangular pan under it. Thanks again.

If you post the numbers from transmission, I will look them up. That will tell you model and year. mine were located on the left hand back side, just above the pan.

That would be great. Im in school right now, but i will try to bring the numbers in tomorrow if i can find them.

If it is an 86, it is a 700r4. No need to check your numbers.

Was reading last night, and it SEEMS Chevrolet did not use the 200, but GM did. i got the impression that if it was a Chevy "so and so" then it was a 700, if it was a Buick or Olds, etc, it could be either.
