I bouhgt an '86 Camaro with a 2.8Liter V6 and an OD automatic. How can i tell whether its a 200-R4 or a 700-R4? None of the books i found were any help. All the spec sheets just say "4spd Automatic".

All of mine have had 700's. The 200 has a weird shape pan, while the 700 is fairly square (rectangular?) ------------------ Mark 1992 Firebird 355/Six Speed 1991 RS 350 / 700-R4 1987 Toyota Pickup 383 / 500 + HP 10.963 @ 119.95 Slicks / 11.997 @ 114.23 Radials shiner16 Sep 13th, 00, 10:12 AM Thanks. Someone else told me exactly the opposite, that the 2.8L only came with a 200-R4. I really hope that you are right. I do know that my dad's '82 Trans Am has a TBI 305 with a 200 tranny. But now that i think back, my tranny does have a rectangular pan under it. Thanks again. Mark W. Winning Sep 13th, 00, 10:42 AM If you post the numbers from transmission, I will look them up. That will tell you model and year. mine were located on the left hand back side, just above the pan. ------------------ Mark 1992 Firebird 355/Six Speed 1991 RS 350 / 700-R4 1987 Toyota Pickup 383 / 500 + HP 10.963 @ 119.95 Slicks / 11.997 @ 114.23 Radials shiner16 Sep 13th, 00, 10:59 AM That would be great. Im in school right now, but i will try to bring the numbers in tomorrow if i can find them. Jonesy Sep 14th, 00, 04:32 PM If it is an 86, it is a 700r4. No need to check your numbers. Mark W. Winning Sep 15th, 00, 09:16 AM Was reading last night, and it SEEMS Chevrolet did not use the 200, but GM did. i got the impression that if it was a Chevy "so and so" then it was a 700, if it was a Buick or Olds, etc, it could be either. ------------------ Mark 1992 Firebird 355/Six Speed 1991 RS 350 / 700-R4 1987 Toyota Pickup 383 / 500 + HP 10.963 @ 119.95 Slicks / 11.997 @ 114.23 Radials shiner16 Sep 18th, 00, 10:57 AM Thanks a ton, guys.
