: X77 Z28 PACE CAR
ashaker May 13th, 04, 09:53 AM I am thinking of buying a 1969 x77 coded Z/28 with an interior trim code of 720 (orange houndstooth) and a Paint code of 50 (dover white) It has orange stripes and an endura front bumper. It looks like a Z10 car but it is a Z/28 It is not a rally sport. It has the orignal 302 with the VIN by the oil filter.. The guy selling it thinks that it was a special order car for a GM executive. Has anyone heard about any Z/28s like this? Is it possible to get a Z/28 with orange stripes? Was this some sort of promotional car?
Thanks for any help.
Mark C May 13th, 04, 11:52 AM A white Z28 would have black rally stripes. Interior color only affected stripe color if the interior was red but it never affected Z28 stripes, only D90 DX1, or D96 stripes.
A special paint instruction car would have a paint code of 50 - or - - on the trim tag. If it has a 50 50 paint or if it had a Vinyl top (50 A,B,C,D or E code) it would have had black stripes originally.
When was it made? Whats the rest of the info on the trim tag?
ashaker May 13th, 04, 03:16 PM The trim tag info is:
ST 69 12437 NOR322474 BDY
TR 720 50 50 PNT
05C X77
67CruiseMasterCamaro May 13th, 04, 05:32 PM I sure would like to see a picture of the trim tag and VIN. Can you post one of each here please?
HawaiianCamaro May 13th, 04, 09:32 PM Yes pics of the car and the tag also whats the VIN on the car?
Decode for body number: 322474
05C = Built the Third week of May.
69-12437 = Coupe.
NOR = Built in Norwood Ohio.
720 = Custom Orange Houndstooth Bucket Seats.
50-50 = Car Color is Dover White
X77 = Z28 without style trim
drdave69 May 14th, 04, 05:50 AM I am trying to visualize this combo. I think it would look unusual but great. I would love to see this car.

When was it made? Whats the rest of the info on the trim tag? I am just speculating but the paint code was never affected by the stripes, right. So if the paint says 50 50 (white car/white roof) the stripe could anyway hve been orange.
With a build date of 05C it was built before the Indy race takes place (if it wasn't earlier in 1969) so the buyer can't have been influenced by the Indy race Pace cars.
Or were they announced before the race took place?
Over here in Sweden there is an unussual Z/28 too, it is Cortez Silver with a blue vinyl top, it has blue interior as well. AND it has blue stripes!
No one really knows if it is original or not.

DjD May 15th, 04, 05:56 AM The Indy 500 is run the last Sunday in May (Memorial Day weekend). Pace Car production started in Feb I believe. I doubt you could get the 720 interior on anything before Feb but once the Pace Car was in production then it makes sense it would be available...
As I see it the stripe being orange should have been a special paint option and designated with a -- My guess is the car was restored/repainted and given the orange stripes...

Read this: http://www.camaros.org/numbers.shtml#ExteriorColors:S:SpecialPaint
No question, car originally had BLACK stripes.
Pace cars were announced Feb of 69.
ashaker May 17th, 04, 07:36 AM Guys,
Thanks for the input. Sorry that am late getting back to you but I was in Vegas for a "Bachelor Party" over the weekend. I have pictures of the car and trim tag but I don't have the VIN. Based on the FAQ of this site I don't think that they can be attached. If any one knows how let me know, otherwise post your e-mail address or send me your e-mail address and I will e-mail the photos. My e-mail is shakerandy@hotmail.com
Thanks

One of our members has an upload site setup to host pic's for use here... I have a link to his home page but not the download site...

Kyvox May 26th, 04, 02:24 AM No rear bumper guards?
X77D80 May 27th, 04, 07:53 PM No FRONT bumper either!!
Poor car must really be confused... Don't know if he's a Z28, Z11 or Z10 :D
olympic69 May 28th, 04, 08:41 AM If it was an RS I would get excited, but is an X77- with louver chrome? genetic mutant perhaps...if it is real ( disclaimer: I am not saying it is a fake) I guess it is kinda neat, but sure needs to have the RS package to make me think Pace Car. And bumper guards to make me think "Z". My $0.02.
